Oh boy where do I begin? This year has been filled with ups and downs. I was recently diagnosed with t1 diabetes, I found out I was pregnant, my grandfather passed and just yesterday my suggie baby Helena passed away. I apologize for the inactivity but I promise I will be active again.

Luckily the diabetes will become a little easier with the pump. The pregnancy hasn't had any issues, the baby is perfectly healthy. I should know the gender in a week or so :)

Helena, who I have had for a year passed away from a bad pouch infection. On Tuesday, I noticed that she wasn't breathing right so I texted my husband and he said to make an appointment with our vet. Unfortunately they couldn't see her until Friday. I also noticed that her tail was missing fur and a bit red, but she was still eating and drinking and when I did the tent test her skin immediately went flat (normal).
Around 3 P.M her breathing got heavier, she was shaking, she was lethargic, she wasn't grooming herself and her eyes weren't big and bright as they usually were. I just knew something was very, very wrong. Again I texted my husband telling him she wasn't doing well. He said as soon as he got home we would take her to the 24-hour ER. Unfortunately he couldn't come home for another 2 hours. In the meantime I kept her warm, gave her water through a syringe, gave her some food and just hoped she would be okay.

When my husband got home we rushed her to the ER, but their specialist wasn't there so they had us see a regular vet. She had Helena in an oxygen box, and told us she had pneumonia and she had no idea what was wrong with her tail. They sent us home after 2 hours and told us all we could do was to keep her comfortable and give her .05 ml of baytril. I had a sneaking suspicion that there was an underlying cause of her sickness, because I knew she was self mutilating. Her tail got worse, to the point that she managed to chew to the bone while at the ER. The hospital didn't even bother to put an e-collar on her and refused to let me put ours on her. As soon as we got home I put the E-collar on her which stopped her from making her tail worse. All this time she continued eating and drinking. I did not enjoy Thanksgiving, I just wanted her to get better. I refused to sleep until she could see the vet. Every hour I made sure she was okay. I'd give her water and more food. She couldn't/wouldn't eat fruit, veggies or her HPW so I gave her dried fruit with mealies and that was all she'd eat. At least it was something. Her tent test was normal, until Friday morning where her fur would not go down. Luckily her appointment was first thing in the morning so we rushed her to the vet. The vet looked at her and noticed that her pouch was a little swollen, something I wish I would have noticed before. She squeezed it a bit and this clear liquid oozed out of her pouch. She said she would have to preform a partial tail amputation on her and find out what was going on with her pouch. Her first thought was that she had either a dead joey in her pouch or she had a tumor. They told us that we would have to leave her there for the day so they could preform surgery on her. They said they would call 12 that day to tell us if they found anything. They didn't call so we called them at 1, and they said they had not preformed any tests on her yet because she was so dehydrated. They had her on fluids and wanted to wait.

At 4 P.M we got a call saying she had the surgery and that she pulled through. They had to completely remove her pouch which was infected, even the vet had no idea how the infection started. They told us that we could pick her up at 6:30. We went to pick her up and they gave us a TON of medicine to give her. Food replacement in case she couldn't eat solids, 2 antibiotics, a calcium supplement, and more that I can't remember. We were ready to do whatever was necessary to bring her back to her healthy self. They went back to get her and we waited about half an hour until the vet technician came out to tell us that she had passed. I was in such disbelief, they told us she was okay. We were going to take her home and everything would be okay. I just had this look of shock until I just broke down. I had lost my best friend, and I couldn't even say goodbye. They gave us her body, wrapped in a nice little towel. It might sound gross or odd to some people but my husband opened the box, we just couldn't believe that she was gone. He kept thinking that they made a mistake, that she was just wasn't breathing heavily and that they missed it. No, she was truly gone.

We took her to my mom's house, we buried her underneath this tree that my grandfather had planted in honor of my grandmother and had a nice little funeral for her.

I am okay, in fact I look back at all these video's and pictures I had of her and I just smile. She was such a sweetheart and she was so kind and I remember whenever I'd come to get her and play with her or carry her around with me, she would just light up. She would come right to me even when she was so sick. She was a little piggy and thief, she would steal food right from the mouths of her brother and sister. She never crabbed, she never bit me and she would just sleep on my tummy :) I miss her so much, but now she is no longer in pain and she is free.

Most everyone I know is saying we are having a girl. There is only one person who thinks we're having a boy. What do you think?
Maybe I should do some lame giveaway to those who vote for the winning gender XD
